Other Inspiration / Andere Inspiratie

The book that inspired the Hotel of Bees shawl obviously has a hotel with a bee theme. The book is called ‘All the light we cannot see’ by Anthony Doerr and although the hotel is just a little part of the story, I highly recommend it.

Apart from crochet and books, there are more artists who work around the bee theme. What about this gorgeous painting by Mark Ryden called ‘Queen Bee’?

Or how about this breathtaking embroidery work from Humayrah of The Olde Sewing Room? Isn’t it stunning?! She used gold, beads, leather and embroidery thread to work her magic. Just amazing. The cool thing is that you can even order your own embroidered bee <3 *squee*

The Hexie

For the second hexie of this theme I have used a picture of a bumble bee in lavender for my color inspiration. Don’t you love to see those hairy bee butts <3 So darn cute! Bees are very attracted to lavender and it’s a joy to watch them buzz from bush to bush. If you want more bees to come into your garden, instead of lavender, you can also plant a butterfly bush, thyme, sage, aster, oregano or mint (to name a few). For the yarn I used 8 colors Scheepjes Stone Washed from the Colour Pack*. You can see the used colors below.

Which colors do you see when you think of bees? You can use my colors, or come up with your own colorway. You can find the pattern for both hexies here! Don’t forget to show me your hexies on social media, using #inspirationalhexies, because I’d love to see them!
