Intro & Links

What is your Essence of Summer? What smells or sounds or feelings or moments makes you say: yes, now it’s Summer?
I have an instant association of Summer when I smell sunscreen or petrichor (the smell of rain on dry earth when it hasn’t rained for a long time) or woodfire (usually barbeque). It’s so funny that we react so strongly to smells when it comes to associations and memories.
The Essence of Summer wrap is made out of three parts: ‘A cooling breeze after a hot Summer day’, ‘Woodfire’ and ‘Petrichor’. I hope to take you with me on a Summer evening, when you’re outside, feeling the scorching hot pavement on your bare soles, the cooling breeze on your face, the smell of woodfire in the air, the pressure of humidity and finally the cooling Summer rain, where the sun reflects golden on thousands of drops <3

Poem

This pattern is part of the Poetry Collection. Each pattern in this collection is accompanied by a poem. Read more via this link.

Bare soles on scorching pavement, barely touching
Fluttering summer dress
A distant rumble and pressure of humid air
The faraway smell of woodfire
Hot breath on sunburned cheeks, running to get home
Just in time for the Summer storm
A thousand mirrors in the air
As the sun shines gold on the raindrops
And the salty smell of petrichor on the dry earth
Reminding me, this is truly Summer

Notes & Tips

  • Turning chains never count as a stitch, so you will not skip the first stitch of the row.
  • Because you work in rows, the loop of the stitch will be situated to the left of the post of the stitch.
  • Stitch counts are only stated if they are changed. Otherwise you can use the last stated stitch count as a reference.

Change colors in the last st before the next row which you need to work in a different color as follows:
1. Work the last sc until two loops remain on your hook {pic 1};
