New Pattern Reveal: The Migrations Shawl

I am so excited that today is the reveal of my newest design: The Migrations Shawl! In my latest blogpost I already shared that this will not be a normal pattern release, because I have teamed up with Plyful* to not only offer a new pattern, but also a behind-the-scenes interview and a full masterclass! 

 

Ik ben zo blij dat ik vandaag mijn allernieuwste ontwerp kan laten zien: De Migrations Shawl! In mijn laatste blogpost deelde ik al dat dit geen normale patroon publicatie is, want ik ben de samenwerking aangegaan met Plyful* om niet alleen een nieuw patroon te ontwerpen, maar ook een achter-de-schermen interview te doen en een prachtige masterclass te geven! Omdat Plyful een Engels abonnement is, is het patroon op dit moment alleen in het Engels verkrijgbaar. 

Inspiration/Inspiratie

The Migrations Shawl is  inspired by Migrations from Charlotte McConaghy, a novel that tells the story of how far people are willing to go to find what they are looking for. For some, it is about arriving. For others, it is about letting go or even fleeing an unwanted reality, all set against the backdrop of the great migration of Arctic Terns. I have translated this inspiration in tangible stitches, such as feather and ripple shapes. 

De Migrations shawl is geïnspireerd op Migrations van Charlotte McGonaghy, een boek die het verhaal vertelt van hoe ver mensen bereid zijn om te gaan om te vinden waar ze naar opzoek zijn. Voor sommige gaat het om aankomen. Voor anderen gaat het om loslaten of zelfs het vluchten van een ongewenste realiteit. Dit alles wordt tegen de achtergrond van de grote migratie van de Noordse Stern geschilderd. Ik heb de inspiratie vertaald naar steken en vormen, zoals veren en rimpelingen.  

Stitches and techniques/ Steken en Technieken

The shawl is worked sideways in three sections: 1 – Ripple stitch pattern using back loop dc and dc2tog, 2 – overlay crochet feather pattern using fptr and fptr2tog, 3 – Filet crochet wave pattern using dc. 

The shawl is worked in two colors, mixing the two in the middel section, using a color change technique that will require no extra ends to sew in.

Testers have deemed this pattern intermediate level, due to the overlay crochet feather section. 

De shawl wordt zijwaarts gehaakt in drie secties: 1 – Ripple steek met stokjes gehaakt in de achterste lus en 2 stokjes samenhaken, 2 – Een verenpatroon gemaakt met relief steken voor (met reldstv en 2reldstvsam), 3 – Filetgehaakt golfpatroon met stokjes. 

De shawl gebruikt twee kleuren, waarbij de twee in het midden worden afgewisseld. daarbij gebruik je een kleurwissel techniek waardoor je geen extra eindjes hoeft weg te werken. 

Testers hebben dit patroon beoordeeld op gemiddelde moeilijkheidsgraad door de sectie met reliëf veren.

Scheepjes Stone Washed (regular, not XL), 130m/50g:
Color A: 4 x 828 Larimar (175g used)
Color B: 4 x 815 Green Agate (174g used)

* 4 mm crochet hook (or size to obtain gauge)

* Darning needle, thread clippers and 24 markers.

The pattern comes in written instructions (US terms), a photo tutorial for all the tricky bits and full charts for each section. I also offer a printer friendly version if you want to save paper <3
