Crochet Inspiration Board / Haakinspiratie Bord

When I was at Yarndale during the Bloggers Days, I saw lots and lots of tweed and natural yarn and I absolutely LOVED it. It looked so earthy and soft and multidimensional and so close to nature <3 I swooned over all the skeins I saw, but I was a good girl and didn’t take any home. I was never really fond of tweed, but since that weekend (and maybe a bit too many episodes of Outlander) I found a new love for tweed and natural yarns.

Toen ik afgelopen oktober op het Yarndale garenfestival was tijdens de bloggersdagen, zag ik erg veel tweed en natuurlijk garen en ik was helemaal VERLIEFD. Het zag er zo aards en zacht uit en ook zo multidimensionaal en natuurlijk <3 Ik ooh-de en aahh-de over alle strengen wol die ik op het festival zag, maar ik ben braaf geweest en ik heb ze laten liggen. Ik was nooit zo’n fan van tweed, maar sinds dat weekend (oké en misschien te veel afleveringen van Outlander) heb ik een nieuwe liefde voor tweed en natuurlijk garen ontwikkeld.

The tweed that I hear of the most is Donegal Tweed. Donegal Tweed is made by first dying the fleece (instead of the spun yarn) and then combining multiple colors of fleece to create a flecked yarn. This is why tweed yarn has a great depth of color.

De tweed waar ik het meeste van hoor, is Donegal Tweed. Deze tweed wordt gemaakt door eerst de vacht te verven (in plaats van het gesponnen garen) en om daarna verschillend gekleurde vachten te combineren, waardoor je een gespikkeld garen krijgt. Dit is de reden waarom tweed een prachtige kleurdiepte heeft.

Where to go for Donegal tweed? Well, to Donegal of course! The Irish county is famous for its Donegal Tweed and the mill, stemming from the late 1700s, is still running : O They make all kind of tweed yarns and fabrics <3 The website of the mill is worth to take a look at if you are not planning a trip to Ireland any time soon. You can find it here. You can even buy their handmade yarns online!

Waar ga je heen voor Donegal tweed? Nou, naar Donegal natuurlijk! De Ierse provincie is bekend om zijn Donegal Tweed en de spinnerij, die afstamt van eind 1700, is nog steeds actief : O Ze maken allerlei tweed garens en textiel <3 De website is het zeker waard een kijkje te nemen als je op korte termijn geen reis naar Ierland gepland hebt. Je kunt hem hier vinden. Je kunt zelfs hun handgemaakte garens online kopen!

Is tweed not your thing, but want to try something natural? How about Woolly Mammoth natural undyed sock yarn? It has no nylon and is non-superwash, which makes it an all natural yarn. The base is a mix between Blue Faced Leicester (for softness) and Cheviot (for strength). Sounds lush!

Is tweed niet je ding, maar wil je wel iets natuurlijks proberen? Wat denk je dan van Woolly Mammoth natuurlijke ongeverfde sokkenwol? Het heeft geen nylon en is non-superwash, wat het een geheel natuurlijk garen maakt. De draad is een mix van Blue Faced Leicester (voor zachtheid) en Cheviot (voor sterkte). Klinkt heerlijk!
