Other Inspiration / Andere Inspiratie

The Japanese have a lot of breathtaking techniques to embellish fabric. One of them is silk painting. This is, among other things, what they use to make the kimono so darn pretty. The technique is called yuzen, and in this video, you can see how it’s done <3

Another beautiful embellishing technique is sashiko. I also used it for my Sashiko project bag pattern (see picture below) and it’s super relaxing to do, but also rewarding, when you see the pattern emerge from beneath your fingers.

If you ask me which book to read regarding kimono, I think Memoirs of a Geisha would fit the bill, but I’m biased, because it’s what got me into the kimono world in the first place. If you like a good story, this is a book for you.

The Hexie

For the second hexie of this theme I have used several women in kimono for my color inspiration. I always think of the combination of red, white, blue and pink, when I think about kimono, so that’s what I used. For the yarn I used 8 colors Scheepjes Stone Washed and River Washed from the Colour Pack*. The colorlist can be found below.

*The codes that start with an 8 are Stone Washed colors, the codes that start with a 9 are River Washed colors.

Which colors do you see when you think of kimono? Are there special patterns that come to mind? You can use my colors, or come up with your own colorway. You can find the pattern for both hexies here! Don’t forget to show me your hexies on social media, using #inspirationalhexies, because I’d love to see them!
