Other Inspiration / Andere Inspiratie

Apart from crochet there are more artists who work with the spring theme. How about needle ‘painting’? I tried it myself once for a sewing class and I must say it really is relaxing with stunning results. This embroidery work from Trish Burr looks just like a real bird to me!

Los van haakpatronen zijn er nog meer kunstenaars die met het lentethema werken. Wat zeg je van naaldschilderen? Ik heb het zelf eens geprobeerd voor een cursus en ik moet zeggen dat het erg ontspannend is en met prachtige resultaten. Dit borduurwerk van Trish Burr lijkt net op een echte vogel!

One Dutch tradition (I don’t know if other countries do it too, if so, please let me know) is to use branches from a filbert tree and decorate them with Easter related ornaments, such as eggs and cute little chicks. It’s like the equivalent of a Christmas tree and it’s something that really cheers up your living room. Unfortunately I’m very bad with keeping up with traditions, because when I remind myself that I need to decorate one, we’re already past Easter, hehe. Een Nederlandse traditie (ik weet niet of andere landen het ook doen, als jij het weet, laat het me dan vooral weten) is het versieren van paastakken. De takken komen van de Hazelaarboom en ik vind het altijd leuk om zo’n tak in huis te hebben, omdat het de woonkamer altijd zo op fleurt. Helaas ben ik vaak te laat en denk ik er pas aan als het al paasweekend is, hehe. Als je nog meer paastak inspiratie wilt, dan kan je zoeken op Instagram met #paastak.

The Hexie

For the second hexie of this Spring theme I have used Magnolias for my color inspiration. One thing I love most about the start of spring is the blossoming of the Magnolia trees and bushes. They are just so abundant and gorgeous and I’m lucky that half of the people on my block have them in their garden so I can admire them every year. Unfortunately we don’t have one, but it’s still on my list of things to plant, so hopefully one day we will have our own magnolia. For the yarn I used 8 colors Scheepjes Stone Washed and River Washed from the Colour Pack*.

Voor de tweede hexie van dit lentethema gebruikte ik de magnolia als kleurinspiratie. Als ik iets mag kiezen wat voor mij écht lente is, dan is dat het bloeien van de magnolia’s. Ze zijn gewoon zo ontzettend weldadig en adembenemend mooi. Ik prijs me gelukkig dat de helft van de mensen in mijn straat ze in de tuin hebben staan zodat ik ze elk jaar weer kan bewonderen. Helaas hebben wij er nog niet een, maar het staat nog wel op ons wensenlijstje, dus hopelijk zal het op een dag bij ons ook zo’n feestje zijn. Voor het garen gebruikte ik 8 kleuren van Scheepjes Stone Washed en River Washed uit de Colour Pack*. 

*The codes that start with an 8 are Stone Washed colors, the codes that start with a 9 are River Washed colors. / De codes beginnend met een 8 zijn Stone Washed kleuren, de codes beginnend met een 9 zijn River Washed kleuren.
